This tractor had been sitting a while. To get it running again it needed the carb adjusted, new seal in the power steering pump, new valve under the gas tank, wiring, and we put new springs on the brake shoes.
In memory of Harold Frede.
Harold enjoyed old tractors and machinery. He loved tinkering and fixing them and using them around his farm. He once told me he had owned 56 tractors over his lifetime; mostly Farmalls, Fergusons, and Fords.
Probably his favorite tractor was a
Massey Fergusons TO 35 which he later traded for a 135. Both had old loaders on them he would use to lift and haul things. You would often see him on these old Masseys, his tractor of choice. (Records show he has owned a model 20, two-30s, 35, 135, two-180Ds, 1135, 175, two-65s, and a 265)
Harold had a long history with McCormick Farmalls. His dad owned a 10-20 (Built from 1923-1939). At some point, Harold wanted his dad to buy a bigger 15-30 but Harold's dad refused due to the economy of the time. (Harold thought a bigger tractor would better pull a combine they had over wet lespedeza fields rather than use a tractor and a team of horses.) Harold had stories of F-12s, 14s, and 20s; Farmall Cs and Hs, and other farmalls he had owned or operated.
I know Harold has owned many Fords as well. In the late 70s he had a pair of Ford diesels, 800 series, one a row crop and the other a Select-O-Speed. I really liked driving the Row-Crop. Over the years and according to his records, he bought and sold models 960D, 871D, 861D, 861G, 971G, 641G, 971, 8n, 2000-four Cylinder, 2000 (Blue), 4010 (Industrial), Ford Backhoe, and the 4000 pictured. He would fix them to his standard, use them, and then trade for something else. He found this 4000 a few years before his death. We use the 4000 around the farm and in memory of Harold's love of old tractors and machinery.
