The 404 replaced the 240 in 1961.  They were made in Chicago IL or Louisville, KY.  Both have similar engineering to the Farmall C.  Competitors were the Ford 3000, MF 35 and 135, and John Deere 1010.

 Fall 2015

Brother Arthur overhauled the Marvel-Schebler carburetor.  Very glad he did, I am nervous when it comes to working on carbs.

We took the head off and sent it to the shop.  The piston and sleeves looked remarkably good.  We did go ahead and put new rings in.

Carb is mounted as well as conversion to an alternator.

 Winter 2015-16

Since I am not getting any younger, I made a set of steps for easy entry and exit.  I saw this design at a tractor show and have since copied it.  This is a very unique way to preserve a little history. You may recognize the step as a seed corn planter plate, IH, 1977a, edge drop, medium flat. Planter plates were used on planters prior to the mid-1970s.

Worked the dash over, ready for instalation.

 Before and after...

You might notice that I converted the 404 to a vertical exhaust.  404 (Utility) Internationals all had underslung exhausts.

Tractor Drive July 2016. Ran very well.  I have also been using it in the hay field to rake, pull wagons, and baled a few bales of hay.

Left to do... paint and finish sheet metal.
